The commercial killing of horses for food ended in the U.S. six years ago, but was revived in 2011. Three horse slaughterhouses were set to open in the U.S., including one in Missouri. But on Jan. 16th Congress declined funding USDA inspections for horse meatpacking plants, basically shutting down the industry. And the state Attorney General's office warns residents about rapid-refund tax providers.

The Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra opens the season October 17th with a program concentrating on Russian music. Later in the year the orchestra will include Ellington, cartoons and Mozart. We talked with the conductor, Steven Byess.
